Jazz legend, big band leader, composer, and pianist Duke Ellington composed three sacred concerts in 1965, 1968, and 1973. These concerts, written for his big band and various church choirs, are considered by Ellington himself to be his most significant musical contribution.
The componist emphasized that these concerts were not intended to create a liturgical mass but rather to bring the spirit of the legendary “Cotton Club” jazz club into the church.
Soloist - vocalist Jānis Strazdiņš.
