On October 12, the Simjūds Market in Valmiera will welcome around 350 vendors. The Simjūds Market is one of the last big markets before winter time, and it is a place, where buyers already start to look for Christmas gifts. The market will feature both local producers and craftsmen from Valmiera region, as well as neighboring areas like Smiltene and Cēsis, and even from further regions like Kurzeme and Latgale.

The goods will reflect the vibrant autumn season — hearty bread, tempting pastries, healthy candied fruits, robust meats, fragrant smoked goods, and delicious cheeses — too many to list them all. Of course, there will be various handmade goods useful around the house and pleasing to the heart. Likely, there will also be a pleasant surprise or two fitting for autumn’s vibrancy, allowing a moment of pause amidst the rich array of goods on display.

The Simjūds market in Valmiera has been organized since the Medieval Ages, later growing and developing under the specific name Simjūds. It is thus one of the oldest in Vidzeme and the last one before winter sets in. The market's name comes from St. Simon and St. Jude's Day, marked on the calendar at the end of October. There were times when the market was a unique three-day celebration attended by all, young and old, and even the shepherds were given a day to enjoy the market right in the heart of Valmiera.
