Alberta Street is the Art Nouveau epicentre of Riga, as magnificent historical Art Nouveau buildings are located along the entire length thereof. Eight of them have been recognised as architectural monuments of state significance.
Each house located in Alberta Street is a unique construction achievement of the 20th century; moreover, the construction of the street required a rather short period — from 1901 to 1908.
Excellent examples of Art Nouveau can be found in the surroundings of Alberta Street as well. Each house is decorated by figural sculptures, façades with protruding balconies, columns and other elements covered in abstract curls keeping with the best traditions of Art Nouveau.
