The Latgale zoological garden is a small municipal zoological garden, an institution funded by the Daugavpils City Council, the goal of which is ecological upbringing and education of children and adults in their interaction with animals. The zoo is located not far from the city centre.
Here, in artificial jungle, dappled pythons slither, caimans bask on the shore, red koi carp swim in the pond, lively macaques and marsupial sugar possums jump around in the lianas, and many other tropical animals swim, whistle, prowl, jump and fly. Children can also stroke a fluffy rabbit, play with cuddly guinea pigs and feed the little fish swimming in the jungle pond.
