Love is in the air! The spring is almost here, and the air starts to feel intoxicating. What better time to go on a romantic holiday in Latvia? We have collected some destinations for a nice and intimate getaway, including, but not limited to, art spaces, cafes and restaurants, as well as places for some rest and relaxation. Are you ready, lovebirds?
Art & architecture make a great couple
Acquiring new experiences together can be a great thing to bond over. That’s why seeing art and architecture is a great activity during your vacation with your significant other. And over here in Latvia, we have plenty to see, too! If you're planning to visit Riga, we would definitely recommend stopping by the Zuzeum Art Centre. It’s one of the newest art museums in Latvia with over 3000m² of space that’s dedicated to various exhibitions and public programs.
If you are more into cinema than art, then a good place to stop by would be Splendid Palace, not only because of the great choice of films possible to see there but also because of the cinema’s special atmosphere which reminds one of the golden age of Hollywood. Truly splendid, indeed!
However, don’t be under the impression that art exists only in Riga. You can also visit Kuldīga Artists' Residence, which hosts contemporary art exhibitions on a regular basis. While you’re at it, be sure to take a walk through the town itself, which is one of the most charming towns in all of Latvia. And definitely get a good look at Venta Rapid!
If you love food, then you’ll love Latvia
They say that the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Well, in Latvia, it applies to both men and women, because the food here is just too good. Be sure to stop by Parunāsim Kafe’teeka for that small cafe charm. And for the wonderful pastries, too. Another cozy option for a more significant meal would be Restaurant Mio.
There are plenty of options for a romantic dinner outside of Riga as well, such as H.E. Vanadziņš in Cēsis, which offers contemporary, northern-inspired cuisine. In Kuldīga, which was mentioned previously, we’d recommend visiting Goldingen Room, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine and offers a great choice of Italian and French wines.
Speaking of wines, Latvia is a great place to enjoy a unique array of beverages. For beer lovers, Duna Brewery in Kuldīga would be a great place to enjoy some small-batch craft beer. For wine enthusiasts, we would definitely recommend checking out Abavas Winery, which has won multiple awards for their wine and cider, as well as Mazburkas Winery, which also offers a tour of the vineyard and accommodation - so you’ll be able to enjoy their beverages without having to worry of getting back to your hotel.
Rest and relaxation - a match made in heaven
After a day full of new experiences, it’s nice to wind down and talk them over with your partner. Regardless of whether you’re more into a modest overnight stay or something more luxurious, we’ve got you covered. If you’re looking to spend the night closer to nature, Ragnar Glamp in Ērgļi is a great option. Fantastic lodging, a restaurant in the spring and summer season, a possibility to go kayaking in a completely transparent boat and wonderful scenery nearby. You can make your overnight stay as luxurious as you want - all in all, a fantastic way to spend your time in Latvia.
If you are looking into more conventional accommodations, Noliktava No 5 in Kuldīga is a great option with a unique atmosphere and a great view over the colorful rooftops of the houses of Kuldīga. If you’re nearby Cēsis and have had a nice meal at H.E. Vanadziņš (but that’s not a necessary precondition), you can spend the night over there as well. However, for all the SPA lovers out there, Berghof Hotel & SPA features a SPA complex, a Turkish steam bath and the option for various massage treatments, while Silene SPA will surprise you with premium SPA treatments, options for active recreation in the area and luxury accommodation. Another option for a SPA & hotel with the presence of nature would be Jonathan SPA Estate, which even houses a cinema bar.
Remember to check the availability of all the venues mentioned beforehand, though - and we hope you’ll have a nicely romantic stay in Latvia!
