The symbol of Ventspils - the castle of the Livonian Order is the oldest medieval fortress in Latvia, which has almost unchanged its original size.
Livonian Order Castle, which has housed the Ventspils Museum since September 2001, is the oldest surviving building in Ventspils, built in the second half of the 13th century.
In 2001, after the completion of the restoration works, the permanent exposition of the Ventspils Museum, dedicated to the history of the castle, city, port and Ventspils region, and the digital exposition "Living History" were opened.
